RcR, I never said it was a good deal, and I never said it was free. The $248 is only if you don't have enough work credits (40) to qualify- same as Social Security.

So if someone hasn't been paying into Social Security they have to pay the premium.

Again- I don't love these programs and wish we'd scrap them all together, I don't like Social Security and I don't like Medicare. At a minimum I think the Govt should allow people to "opt out" of both and allow private companies to compete for the business.

This isn't an Obama issue, all the candidates are dancing around this. Just like income taxes.

We all know what we need to do, the politicians won't do the hard stuff.
