"why wasn’t that done in a proper manner consistent with Islamic laws and traditions?"

Because we do not live under Islamic laws and traditions. The Afghan Muslims don't give a rip about our laws and traditions, particularly our Christian traditions, so why would or should we bend over and beg for forgiveness for violating theirs?

"In this kind of war, it is imperative that our warfighters understand the culture within which they are operating, ..."

Yes, understand the enemy so they can kill them - not submit to their 12th century religious laws.

"Apologizing to the enemy reflects a gross misunderstanding of the purpose and realities to which “we the people” commit our armed forces ..."

This is the exactly correct. No apology needed because we are not bound by their traditions or laws and we are not there to promote them. We are there, at least were originally, to distroy the terrorist regime supporting Al Qaeda.

The reason this all happened is because our politicians, civilian and military, have turned the mission into another ridiculous peace keeping, humanitarian, attempt to pacify and westernize a primitive culture totally incapable of changing or willing to accept it.

Yes, history does repeat itself, because we keep electing these idiots to govern this country who don't even know history, much less ever learn the lessons of it. How can they know history when it has been so carefuly rewritten to protect the very ones responsible for it's mistakes?
