First Prairie Grouch, I am not making $8446/month as I retired before this. The pay raises didn't get good until we started dying. So, there are great number of Lt Cols that didn't get that kind of money when they retired. There had been no Cost of living adjustment for retires for three years including military retirees. Second, Alvin said after 20 years not 25 years. It is 50% of the average of the last three years of salary. Then, you get 2.5% of every year after that for maximum of 75% (30 years). So, let's just call it $50k for a Lt Col who retires at 20 years today. They earned it. Third, when did $78k become $80-85k? So, basically Alvin and the short bus crew miss the retired salary by approximately 40% and think they know some. I bet they don't miss the welfare checks and subsidized housing or food stamps. I would be grouching too if I thought like that.
