Colonel,
Changing the meaning of the word hero which I
consider to be risking your own life to save another
detracts from the original military usage. When I
retired from the USAF along with thousands of others,
we did not consider ourselves heroes nor did the
the general public. This is just more VFW and media
PR spin. I realize that those who stand watch still
serve but they are not called heroes. Of course, I will
have to admit that this spin has resulted in increased
benefits over the past 41 years.
