"New Guy" since when is someone having health care any concern of either the State or Federal Govt?...that is not their job. For about 20 year, I could hardly afford to buy health insurance, but I always paid for that first, then used the rest for food, etc. If I can make sure that I have health insurance why can't most people? Probably 80% of those without health insurance are young people who don't see the need for insurance and would rather use that money to buy their weekly supply of pot. And, about 10% of those without insurance, just simply go to an emergency room or a public clinic. And 10% are drug addicts, homeless, insane or something else.

I know at least 5 people that have never had health insurance, but does not do without medical care...they simply load the car up with the kids and go to the emergency road.

Your shock that Texas has so many people without insurance is similar to the shocking news that Texas spends less on public education than just about any other state. But, that is a Good thing. That means that Texas is very efficient with their education money.

It's only left liberals that would see saving money for social programs is a terrible thing.
