Bob,

I have my own business and have employees in that business. In that capacity, I recognize that I have benefited from a public school education, federal grants and loans throughout undergraduate and graduate school, and government assisted healthcare during my education. Those things helped get me where I am today.

If I wanted to, I could now say "Well, I got mine. Everyone else needs to apply themselves and do the same.". But that's myopic, self-interested and wrong. I've benefited from the system. As such, I don't mind paying a little more in taxes to help give someone a hand up if they need it.

You can call names and label me a socialist for believing that way. How arguing over a 4-5% difference in marginal tax rate makes one a socialist and one a good American is beyond me, but in this day and age of hyerbolic debate, it's hardly surprising.
