Dear Readers,
After reading so much misinformation, I felt it is necessary for me as Mayor of this great community to correct some information being writen on this forum.
First of all , the term "sports complex" gives the impression of a grandiose park. I WILL TAKE BLAME FOR USING THAT TERM. In reality, the park that is being considered, if we ever get past every hurdle being put forth, is simply 4 new baseball/softball fields, 1 football field, and renovating the 3 existing fields ,along with renovations to the existing restroom, concession, and pavilion area. We are not attempting to build a professional arena, or trying to lure a professional franchise as I have read ..But because of population growth, erosion damage, flood damage, the idea is simply to fix up what we have and add a few more fields.
The propaganda being spread would have you believe that the City is building a park instead of fixing the sewer or streets... Again, not true. The City is very proud of our ongoing street maintenance plan. We recently passed a resolution to begin the process for our Waste Water Treatment Plant which will be completed by 2014.
Further, a park with a walking path around the field encourages a healthy habit of walking. As a diabetic, I often walk at Pecan Park which is highly encouraged by my physician. National news often reports of the obesity epidemic, and the rise of diabetes. Our Parks Foundation developed a motto " Get Fit Floresville", encouraging adults and children to live healthy lifestyle.
Often , I read that the City Council went against the petition. Again, not true. The petition being circulated by Jim Miller, did not want the City to obligate any tax money to build the park. The financing method approved the FEDC does not obligate a single penny from the City.
Therefore , the CITY PROPERTY TAX PAYERS WILL NOT FINANCE THE PROJECT. NOT A SINGLE PENNY.. These are the facts.
Also, I have read that the money being used can finance other projects. The FEDC is very limited in how the sales tax revenue can be utilized. In fact, in 1996,the voters specifically voted appropriation for park facilities..
I am available to answer any questions. My phone number is 830 391-4980. My email is mayordtejada@yahoo.com.
Thank you...
WE LIVE IN A VIBRANT , CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY... together we can do so much, alone we can do so little.
