2011: Revenue: $367k ($228k sales tax) Expenditures: $632k Differences: -265k
2010: Revenue: $317k ($208k sales tax) Expenditures: $497k Differences: -180k
2009: Revenue: $270k ($202k sales tax) Expenditures: $422k Differences: - $152k
2008: Revenue: $236k ($194k sales tax) Expenditures: $122k Differences: +$114k +6M (Bond)
2007: Revenue: $191k ($174k sales tax) Expenditures: $61k Differences: +$130k + $990k (Bond)
Convention Center $5.8M over 30 years at 3% (generous rate): $293k/year
Add personnel cost and administration cost of $100k/year.
It takes $393k/year to get the Convention Center open. The most they have generated from leasing in a year is $78k and the most they have generated from sales tax is $228k.
So, the revenue the convention generates is $306k and the expenditures is $393k. The convention center is operating at a loss of $87k. The City of Floresville has injected numerous projects into the convention center like speakers and upkeep, etc. FEDC put the highway turn lane in. The 3% interest was very generous. The convention center will have to re-negotiate rates soon and pay another marketing fee which cost $800k last time. So, the real cost of the loan in 2014 will be around $5.8M +800k = 6.6M at 6% or $475k/year in 2014.
RECAP for Convention Center: The Convention will NEVER generate enough revenue to cover its cost. The City will continue to have fund improvements and upgrades and if the interest rate gets as bad as I project, the convention center will never be paid off by the convention center economic corporation (4A)
