Untrue Resident
Floresville
September 20, 2012 1:28pm
I don't care who the Mayor is. I am not voting for Gomez. The numbers are the numbers. I live downtown Floresville, too. I am not proud of Floresville as the education system is poor. The population is uneducated compared to the averages in Wilson County and the State of Texas. The roads and drainage in Floresville is terrible. The drinking water system is outdated and needs severe upgrading. The sewer treatment plant is undersized and needs upgraded. The money spent on Wal-Mart sewer system was a waste. The housing in Floresville is poor and zoning and planning continues building mobile home parks and RV parks. Drive around many streets downtown and it doesn’t look pretty. City resources are being over used. The current Mayor seems to be unresponsive to concerns of all citizens. No matter, he is leaving. A fair and balance discussion on what is in the best interest of the city through proper planning is missing. Whoever the next Mayor is I hope she is more in tune with Planning. As I have a Master's Degree in Environmental Science from UTSA which includes planning, I am appalled by lack of City Planning. I am sure you and I sitting down and discussing could come up with a more reasonable plan than the non-existing plan we have now. A sports complex versus the other priorities needs to be addressed in more detail. As for Wilson County growing, this growth is only due to Eagle Ford Shale not because of the wisdom of the Floresville or County officials are driving the growth or change. We should be using Eagle Ford Shale and not having it use us
RECAP. The current Mayor and Councilmen did not create the growth and the items they are spending the money on things that would sustain the growth and provide a better place to live. Therefore, Mr Gomez does not deserve election. However, as this city is quite nepotistic, I am sure the one with the most relatives will win. My last name is not Flores and my family did not donate land for the city. However, as stated above, if spending exceeds revenues, then eventually the city will go bankrupt like many other cities in the US and there will be no money to maintain even the basic items let alone a costly Sports Complex and Convention. Finally, I am yet to figure out why you are so proud of Floresville? You continue to give accolades to places and people but never back them up with facts. For someone who makes so much money, your reasoning seems flawed.
