Danny, I suggest you give it up. You can't change anyone's faith-based belief with "facts." A person of true faith won't suppose they know better than God or can understand His will. So to cite the intolerance, violence, etc in the bible as proof there is no god is a waste of time. For example, a Christian believes God allowed His own son to suffer tremendously at the hands of man. Why would God allow his son to suffer yet go around to prevent everyone else's suffering? There is a purpose for the suffering in this world. Since you have no faith, I doubt that you can grasp this concept.

You equate God's use of the plural "us" to mean that all other beings that existed before earth's creation are gods as well. That is like George Bush using the word "us" when referring to the American people. That doesn't make us all presidents. I'm assuming you know that the bible refers to beings other than man and God (Gabriel, angels, Satan, demons). These could be the "us" to which he refers. It could refer to the Trinity but you already dismissed this because you say it is not mentioned in the Old Testament, thus "out of linear context." I'd counter that just because it wasn't revealed in the Old Testament doesn't mean it didn't exist prior. Read John 1:1-3, John 5:45-47, and Col 1:16-17 and you'd see how the term "us" can be used in Genesis.

Another faulty argument you make is that the whole bible must be taken literally or none of it should be taken seriously. Is this your own rule? If the US Constitution were taken literally, you would have no argument for the "separation of church and state." Those words won't be found in the constitution, or even a close approximation. The Supreme Court had to extract that concept out of the literal wording of the text. By your rule, that invalidates the entire Constitution. The bible is a compilation of many works written over many centuries and translated from many languages. You must reference meanings in the original languages to fully understand the meaning in English. Modern language, or even Old English, often don't provide the perfect word or phrase to communicate something that was easily understood by the ancients.

Finally, your comments to John from Karnes City about his English is a personal attack that demonstrates your intolerance for opposing viewpoints. Furthermore, it invalidates your entire argument. It shows you have a tendancy to dismiss information by picking at errors in syntax, grammar, and translation instead of comprehending the meaning of the text.

You sound like a smart guy. Please turn your energy into a more worthy pursuit. Here's a novel idea: set an example by being one of the few liberal-minded atheists that can maintain an open mind and remain tolerant of other's views.
