Concerned Tax Payer.....I also retired from the military
but I know that a defined pension with COLA cannot continue
to a burden to future generations. All entitlement
payees think that they are entitled and deserve their
pension. Incidentally, the COLA received in 2009 was
not deserved because inflation decreased somewhat or stayed the
same the next two years. Due to the law, we got to
keep that undeserved bonus. We drew the COLA until
inflation finally caught up with the CPI. I am reminded of a quote
by the late Dan Cook "I wake up each morning in mortal
fear of getting what I really deserve". My retirement
pay is now five and a half times the amount that I
received in 1971 so I am willing to give a meager
10 percent back for my country's financial well being.
Your response is a sample of the wailing that will
be heard in the nation when government starts to be
reduced.
