Help Wanted

ON-CALL CRISIS POOL WORKERS NEEDED. Part-time positions are available for after hours “on-call” crisis workers to respond to mental health crisis for Wilson and Karnes Counties. Duties include crisis interventions, assessments, referrals to stabilization services, and referrals for involuntary treatment services according to the Texas Mental Health Laws. You must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, nursing, etc. On-call hours are from 5 p.m.-8 a.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays vary. If selected, you must attend required training and must be able to report to designated safe sites within 1 hour of request for assessment. Compensation is at a rate of $200 per week plus $100 per completed and submitted crisis assessment, and mileage. If interested call Camino Real Community Services, 210-357-0359.

That is a shame. With the high winds and dead weeds and grasses around the county it seems like a disaster in the making. Personally, I wish all burning would, could, should be banned. Everyday this week someone has been burning something in our area. I have been forced to stay inside my house because of the smoke. On these beautiful days it is very hard to stay inside. I have asthma and the burning makes it impossible to be outside. I understand people need to burn underbrush, trash and dead trees therefore we should make it certain days a month. Not everyday. A couple of days a month would be much better for our lungs and our health. These people who are burning are burning after dark also. What about all the children who have asthma? They can't be outside with people burning everyday of the week. Let's have scheduled days for burning. Twice a month would be nice.
