Poor to me was: Having only 1 family car that was 15 years old, 1 or 2 pair of jeans and a couple of cotton shirts, no air conditioning (fireplace or coil oil heater). Bananas and apples were a luxury only gotten on special occasions. Allowance...what was that? An old wringer/tub washing machine, outhouse and beans/potatoes/cornbread 3 or 4 times per week. We only had milk cause we either had a cow or we went to a close by dairy farm and bought raw milk. Dentist/doctors...first time I went to a dentist I was 20 years old. And doctors were something you went to when you saw buzzards look at you and start whispering to each other. The previous is what a poor folk looked like from my front porch.
