Fair Tax......Any tax with a rebate to make it
progressive doesn't deserve the term "Fair". The
so called fair tax is inclusive which means that
the purported 23 percent tax rate is the same as
a 30 percent exclusive sales tax. Adding the state
sales tax to the inclusive tax and end up close to a 40
percent sales tax in Wilson county, In Texas, a 20000.00
car would cost about $28000.00 provided you paid cash.
A lot more if you had to finance the fair tax portion.
Since most would get a rebate every year up to the
to the portion of your income (poverty level) not subject
to the fair tax, a large federal workforce would still
be needed for collection and payments.
I have also read some analysis that the same neutral
revenue rate would have to be about 34 percent exclusive due due to fraud.
One of the worst feature of this plan is the allowance
for adjustment to meet the federal revenue needs.
