Prairie, I am so glad you agree the military is fallible. Therefore, all their actions must be studied and validated to ensure future success and limit the loss of American lives. This is where Military Doctrine comes from.

I still have no idea of why you keep saying the mission of military is not to protect US Diplomatic personnel. What mission statement are you looking at? Are you telling me the US military's mission is not to respond in a crisis? This was a crisis. (SEE the 4 Powers of a Country). If the US military is not responsible for responding to an attack on US soil (US Embassy) then whose Mission is it?

My point is and continues to be why did the military not try to respond when US soil was under attack?

For asking these questions, you make statements that I'm bad mouthing the military. Of course, you then make disparaging comments on military doctrine in Vietnam which still is still being used by some. So, what part of the military is OK to badmouth? Only that which supports your narrow-minded point of view is good military.
