From John Davidson, Texas Public Policy Foundation

“The millions of Americans who are losing their coverage are not victims of unintended consequences. What happened to them was exactly what the authors of the law, including the White House, intended – and they are only amending course because the political price is now too high.

“What the President proposed today is not a ‘fix’ to ObamaCare or its rollout. In fact, it is a mere delay that defers these disastrous consequences one year down the road – in other words, past the 2014 midterm elections. This is not and never was policymaking for the good of the American people. It is and remains policymaking driven by a vision of power concentrated in Washington, D.C. – at the expense of our households and communities.

“The Obama administration knew that millions of Americans would lose the health care plan they had--and liked--but chose to misrepresent the law. It is disingenuous for those responsible for this harmful legislation to claim that a quick administrative fix is now needed. What is needed is an entirely new approach that does not take away the insurance plans millions of Americans chose for themselves and their families.

“Both Democrats and Republicans now recognize that ObamaCare is an unmitigated disaster that is hurting millions of Americans. But instead of trying to fix a fundamentally flawed law whose consequences are now obvious to all, the Affordable Care Act should be repealed and replaced with reforms that give Americans real health care choices.”
