John Boehner might well have saved the Republican
party and maybe this nation by increasing the debt
ceiling. Massive reductions within a very short time
would have resulted in millions of lost jobs and
productivity not to mentioned a radical downgrading
of Americas' credit rating. To offset the loss
borrowing power, taxes would have to be raised and
expenditures reduced. While this sounds reasonable
to the citizen, are they willing to pay higher
taxes or to have their entitlement curtailed sharply ?
Be careful what you wish for. A sledge hammer approach
might not be preferable to a small hammer and chisel
chipping away at the government expenditures.
