La Vernia

The intersections of Hwy 87 and 97, where this accident occurred, is always dangerous.

Tx DOT did revamp the Hwy 87 portion of that intersection recently but the speeds posted are, in my humble opinion, still too high for roads that merge on a curve such as this one does. Hwy 87 is 65 mph at this point and Hwy 97 is 70.

Traffic merging from Hwy 97 to Hwy 87 toward La Vernia have a stop sign. Traffic merging toward Stockdale now have a merge lane and it is very common for traffic, including 18 wheelers, to hit that intersection at 70 mph.

Perhaps a speed reduction at that intersection would be prudent.
