AH, pascal was indeed quite ignorant, as his wager itself proves, as is does not take into account the other 9,998 religions that existed at the time he made it.
Likewise, C.S. Lewis is not that brilliant of a mind either. Being Atheist is too simple? I think not. It takes more studying to come to the conclusion that there are no gods than it does to accept hearsay because it promises some ultimate truth that one wants to hear.
I would like to know what is so worn out about my sources? Zeitgeist is definitely not that old.
No matter what there are still religions that outdate christianity and all other monotheistic religions, which christianity clearly draws from in its canon. By the way, the version of the bible you quote is clearly one of the newer version which has edited out all of the mythological creatures aside from angels, demons, and giants. Pick up an Old King James version. Then, while everyone keeping up with this is at it, try and get a hold of a copy of one of the three or four books that were left out of the bible. Their absurdity is beyond anything else that is in the bible.
What I find most ignorant of the religious is that they would rather boast about believing that mankind was created out of dirt while taking offense and disgust to a sound theory backed by tons of empirical evidence that suggests that like all other things in the universe, we developed slowly from a simpler form with a common ancestor simply because they can't stomach the idea that we could be related to apes.
Please do address that comment and any other comment of plagiarism in the bible. One thing I've always found amusing in my studies is that all the mythology the bible steals from is from a fairly geocentric area. There's no similarities that I've found so far with east Asian mythologies.
All the stories that we consider myths now were all part of widely believed religions, and the bible will inevitably take its place next to "The Odyssey" and "The Epic of Gilgamesh" along with the Koran and other such tales. I say, why delay the inevitable? Instead I would prefer that such action be sped up. The laws of the universe that science has discovered rule out the existence of gods, simply by showing that the traits that make a deity as such are impossible in all reality.
