Wow, talk about standing history on its head. Your logic is twisted to fit your purpose. If you at look at history Socialism was suposed to be the road to Communism. Many nations did go from socialism to fascism: Chile, Guatemala, Iran, Greece. All of these nations at one point had leaders that were preceived by the US to be socialist. The US then proceded to help overthrow those governments and military fascist governments then took over. The US government was happy because they were anti-communist. Many nations have what YOU would call socialist economy. Many European nations, Germany included evolved into a what YOU would call a socialist economy. They call themselves a capitalist economy. They have private businesses, they have stock markets, captial is raised, shares are sold. Anyone can start a business, you do not need to be a friend of the president or prime minister. Citizens can buy private health insurance or not. Citizens with low income can buy into several plans of health insurance sponsered by the government. No one goes without healthcare. The government decided long ago that health was an issue of national interest. England, France, Italy all have national health systems. They all are strong allies of the United States. They all have private ownership of property, business, stock markets, same as we do. They do not feel that they are on the way to being facist or communist governments. They have in somepoint in recent history takenover a failed business that was important to national interest. When the economy was stabilized these businesses were returned to private ownership. Today European capitalism is as strong as American capitalism. Stop playing boggie man with words. All you did was throw out a lot of scare words with no facts behind them. Unrestricted capitalism is as bad as unrestricted anything. Unrestricted capitalism would have given Rockefeller total monopoly of the oil industry. A republican decided that some business men needed restriction. Theodore Rosevelt felt that monopolies were bad for America captalism and got congress to pass laws to limit mergers. Theodore Rosevelt did not play games with words, or false boggie men. Your speech was nothing but lies and twisted logic.
