A lesson to be had in Venezuela

Editor:

Reading the Wilson County News is one of my things to do each week. The opinion page is my favorite. The editorials and opinions are insightful and to the point.

The page follows a format traditional in newspapers of old, as the Wilson County News affords anyone the opportunity to voice his or her concerns, and that is where I am headed in this writing.

My concern is this. How often do we really dig into a political candidate to get to know what they really profess? To be blunt, political candidates are often like snakes lying in wait. Both parties are guilty of this practice and we voters just “go with the flow.”

This is where we are now. The Democrat Party is leaning more to the left, as young voters are disillusioned — sometimes with life itself.

Young people have not seen the dangers of socialism and communism. My generation has been through the wringer, from almost getting nuked by the Soviet Union, to Vietnam to Desert Storm, and much more. Millennials have not experienced it for themselves, and education has whitewashed too much of our history with political correctness.

They think being a conservative Republican is evil, but I would tell them, don’t wait until you have full-blown socialism and communism.

All those promises of free this and free that will not be kept. Nothing is free. Anything you need must come from your own efforts, because the moment you let government start controlling your life, you no longer have freedom.

The likes of Beto, AOC, Pelosi, Harris, Schumer, Blumenthal, and Feinstein all work against the very fabric from which this nation was founded.

The choice is indeed ours, but be careful with that choice.

Pay close attention to the crisis now happening in Venezuela. This is what happens in a socialist regime.
