Senior Master Sgt. Aloys Richard Manka USAF (Ret.) passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023, in his home in La Vernia, Texas. Richard was born Feb. 3, 1949, to Aloys Leo and Frances (Brysch) Manka in Karnes City.
Richard graduated from Karnes City High School in 1967. After graduation he married the love of his life, Nancy Ann Melensek, on June 23, 1973. They moved to Elmendorf for a few years, but then moved back to La Vernia, restoring a home on the Melenesk family home place. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country for more than 25 years. He was also employed by CPS Energy as a mechanic and worked there until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Manka; and his parents.
Richard is survived by his siblings, Rudolph Manka, Maxine Manka Lyssy, and Geraldine Manka Bonner (Bob); numerous nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 24, from 8:30- 10 a.m., with a rosary at 10 a.m., in St. Ann Catholic Church in La Vernia.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the church, with Father Johnson Le officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sutherland Springs Cemetery in Sutherland Springs.
