Attend local tax-rate, budget hearings

You can weigh in on the proposed tax rates and budgets being proposed in your community.

Cities, school boards, emergency services districts, Wilson County, and other taxing entities will hold public hearings on their proposed budgets and tax rates for the coming fiscal year.

Taxpayers can attend these hearings and voice their opinions or concerns about the proposed rates and budgets, and ask questions.

Here are some opportunities:

•Thursday, Aug. 24, 6 p.m. at St. Hedwig City Hall, 13065 F.M. 1346 in St. Hedwig — City of St. Hedwig; tax-rate and budget hearings; proposed tax rate is 49.5 cents per $100 of taxable valuation

•Thursday, Aug. 24, 6 p.m., Floresville City Hall, 1120 D. St. in Floresville — City of Floresville; hearing on the proposed 2023-24 budget of $30.54 million, including $13.3 million in capital improvement plans

•Friday, Aug. 25, 8:30 a.m., Wilson County Appraisal District Office, 1611 Railroad St. in Floresville — Wilson County Appraisal District; hearing on the proposed budget of $1.712 million

•Monday, Aug. 28, 9 a.m., Wilson County Courthouse, 1420 Third St., Floresville — Wilson County; hearing on the proposed budget, including $29.059 million in revenue, and anticipated expenditures of $31.059 million

•Monday, Aug. 28, 6 p.m., Poth ISD Cafeteria — Poth Independent School District; tax-rate hearing; proposed rate is 97.27 cents per $100 of taxable valuation, a decrease from the current rate of $1.0913 per $100

•Monday, Aug. 28, 6 p.m., 2220 S. Loop 1604 East, San Antonio — Bexar County Emergency Services District 6 (ESD 6); tax-rate hearing; proposed tax rate is 10 cents per $100 of taxable valuation, the maximum allowed by state law; due to increased property values, the bill for an average homestead in the service area could go up from $139.99 to $154.83

•Monday, Aug. 28, 14229 F.M. 1346, St. Hedwig — Bexar County ESD 12; tax-rate hearing; proposed rate is 10 cents per $100 of taxable value, the maximum allowed by state law and the same as the current rate; due to increased property values, an average bill could go up from $245.25 to $275.59

•Thursday, Aug. 31, 9 a.m., Karnes County National Bank, 100- A Business Park Drive in Kenedy — Ecleto Watershed District; tax-rate hearing; proposed rate is 3.53 cents per $100 of taxable valuation, a decrease from the current rate of 3.634 cents per $100.
