Not one, not two, but at least 10 new businesses set up shop in Floresville last year, despite challenges from the continuing pandemic.

In 2021, Floresville welcomed a wide variety of businesses, from restaurants and boutiques, to a martial arts academy and even an industrial outfit.

In January, Floresville gained Sunnyside Up Cafe, located at 1315 10th St. (U.S. 181). The restaurant began as a breakfast joint, and now also serves lunch and dinner.

Brick’n Dough Pizza also got its start early in the year. The restaurant is located at 33 Laboratory Road, north of Floresville.

In February, two more businesses came to 10th Street (U.S. 181) — Top Hat Thriftique, located in the Plaza shopping center near Tractor Supply, and Pink Canyon Salon & Boutique, adjacent to Angelica’s Mexican Restaurant.

Starbucks and Shannon Galvanizing kicked off in March. Shannon Galvanizing joined businesses at the Rancho Grande Industrial Park — a 305-acre park developed by the Floresville Economic Development Corp. — located at 804 F.M. 537, east of Floresville. And Starbucks joined the businesses on 10th Street (U.S. 181), near O’Reilly Auto Parts.

In May, Serenity Memorials moved in at 602 10th St. (U.S. 181) near Angelica’s Mexican Restaurant. Serenity Memorials offers headstones, benches, and vases for cemetery plots.

Also in May, the Floresville McDonald’s restaurant reopened for business after the previous building was demolished in January. The store operated by drive-through only for the remainder of 2021.

In June, Ultimate Submission Academy — a martial arts school and self-defense academy — opened up at 802 Eighth St., offering classes for youth and adults.

Also in June, the official grand opening ceremony of C Street Gift Shop took place; the gift shop is located at 1012 C St., inside the Wilson County News/La Vernia News office.

A month later, Radiance & Relaxation Day Spa came to town, just a couple of doors down from Starbucks on 10th Street (U.S. 181).

September saw the start of Pruski’s Auto Sales, located at 138 N. Business Loop 181 (Fourth Street).

Craft lovers rejoiced when Stash House Fabrics & Quilting had its ribbon-cutting ceremony in November. The new business is located at the corner of 10th Street (U.S. 181) and B Street.

Wrapping up the new ventures was Wild Bill’s Beverage Barn. Located at 1313 10th St. (U.S. 181), the business celebrated its grand opening in November, after being closed since the 1990s.

Other 2021 new business ventures include: • Floresville Community Market, held on Saturdays at the Beer Warehouse at 1302 S. Second St.

Purple Haze Vape & Smoke Shop, located at 935 10th St.

Floresville Urgent Care Clinic, located at 101 Wilson Drive, Suite 102, in Floresville Crossing

Bobby’s Place Comida Mexicana food truck, located at 560 10th St. (U.S. 181)

Cuevas Piñatas, located at 33 Laboratory Road

Elite Nutrition, located at 2840 Business Loop 181 North

Double Trouble Boutique, located downtown at 1423 Third St.

Coming in 2022

While this rounds up the newly established businesses in 2021, others are already in the works for 2022.

So far, the list of businesses coming to Floresville in 2022 include:

Bubba’s Burger & Fries

181 Archery

Petco

Burger King

Come and Wash It laundromat

Price Chrysler Dodge Ram Jeep, on 10th Street (U.S. 181), adjacent to Richardson Bros Chevrolet

•A future eatery and multi-use facility at the former Floresville Electric Light & Power System headquarters.

In 2022, Floresville will also see the re-opening of the Wilson County Community Health Center — at its new location near the post office — as well as the re-opening of Bleu Casa Village, located at 1820 G St., next to La Quinta Inn & Suites.

Other kinds of growth

Floresville saw much growth last year, but it wasn’t just in the business sector.

In September, The Villages at River Bend developer Richard Kunz — along with community leaders, real estate agents, and Floresville residents — celebrated the grand opening of Phase II of The Links at River Bend. This phase will bring 97 homes to the River Bend Subdivision.

In December, Floresville City Council approved the Chaparral Ranch Subdivision, to be located in the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction, which will produce 88 custom-built homes.

Floresville also gained an amphitheater last fall, named after the late Floresville city Councilman Gerard J. Jimenez, and located at the Floresville Sports Complex.
