Things are shaking up in the realm of high school football, following sports realignments by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), released Feb. 3.
Floresville, currently in the Conference 5A, will be classified as 4A for sports next school year. They’ll play football in 4A, Division 1, District 15. This pits the Tigers against the La Vernia Bears this fall; also in the district are Beeville Jones, Pleasanton, Port Lavaca Calhoun, and Rockport-Fulton.
Also changing in classification for football will be the Stockdale Brahmas. This past season, Stockdale played in 3A, against Poth and Nixon-Smiley. This fall, the Brahmas will be in Conference 2A, Division 1, District 14. Their district doesn’t include any local opponents. Falls City, currently 2A, remains so, but moves from District 16 to District 14.
Poth and Nixon-Smiley, who competed against each other and Stockdale in 2021, remain in Conference 3A; they’re part of Division 2, District 15.
East Central remains District 27-6A; this includes familiar opponents, such as Judson, New Braunfels, Clemens, and Steele. New to the district will be San Marcos.
Conferences — such as 2A and 4A — reflect student population. The reclassification of Stockdale and Floresville may reflect decreasing student enrollment in those districts.
