Irene Gomez Jaramillo

Irene Gomez Jaramillo entered eternal rest on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at the age of 91 years, 6 months, and 11 days. Irene passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family in Floresville, Texas. Irene was born Oct. 21, 1930, in Wilson County on the Black Hills at Wolf Ranch to Margarito and Dolores Vera Gomez. She was the fourth of 16 children.

Irene was a lifelong resident of Floresville and a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She retired after 40 years from Floresville Nursing Home and Connally Memorial Medical Center, where she worked as a medical assistant and nurse’s aide. Irene loved to play Mexican Loteria, bingo games, the slots at casinos, and passed her time scratching lottery tickets. She enjoyed reading, watching “Wheel of Fortune,” and was a Dallas Cowboys and Spurs fan. Her home on Sunnyside Road was where all the holidays were celebrated with her family. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. Irene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margarito and Dolores Vera Gomez; grandsons Christopher James Barrera and Ray Ray Barrera; and siblings Trinidad Gomez Martinez, Fidel Gomez, Tomasa Gomez Aranda, Adela Gomez, Maria Gomez DeLeon, Herminia Gomez Almanza, Margarita Gomez Jimenez, and Antonio Gomez.

Irene is survived by her sons, David Jaramillo Jr. (Rose) and Armando Jaramillo (Kathy), all of Floresville, and Ruben Jaramillo (Maria) of Adkins; daughters Olga Estrada (Gilbert), Sylvia Barrera (Ray), and Grace Alfaro (Benny), all of Floresville; grandchildren David Jaramillo (Amy), Kevin Jaramillo (Crystal), Max Jaramillo, Ruben Jaramillo Jr. (Sara), Jeff Jaramillo (Elena), Christina Marie Jaramillo, Gilbert Estrada Jr. (Amanda), Felicia Estrada (Marco), Angela Jaramillo Quintero (Robert), Samuel Alfaro, Jenny Alfaro, Stephanie Alfaro (Mark), Amy Alfaro Pablo (Ray), and T.J. Alfaro (Daisy); brothers Gregorio Gomez (Alicia), Jesus Gomez, Felix Gomez (Margarita), Juan Gomez (Dora), Guadalupe Gomez, and Ramon Gomez; sister Ernestina Gomez Almanza (Juan); 46 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Visitation was held on Monday, May 9, from 5-7 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

An additional visitation was held on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the church.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons, Max Jaramillo, Gilbert Estrada Jr., Ruben Jaramillo Jr., Jeff Jaramillo, T.J. Alfaro, and Robert Quintero.
