Irene Rodriguez of Nixon, Texas, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at the age of 71. Irene was born March 12, 1950, in Gonzales County to Angelo and Cipriana (Fonseca) Riojas. She was the only daughter of the five children.
On Aug. 29, 1970, Irene married her sweetheart, Guadalupe “Lupe” Rodriguez. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage until his passing in 2014. Irene was a wonderful wife and mom and the epitome of strength. She was always there for her children and made them a priority in her life. She was also a doting grandmother to all of her grandchildren and a wonderful cook, whose family meals will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two of her brothers, Frank Riojas and Johnny Riojas.
Irene is survived by her children, Jeremy Rodriguez (Janette), Kelly Rodriguez (Vanessa), and Tammy Ivey (Russell); grandchildren Seth, Zoey, Tapanga, Christian, Tristian, Issabelle, Angel, Arie, Ava James, and Alexander; brothers Angelo Riojas Jr. (Lesli) and Pete Riojas Sr. (Dorothy); and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 19, from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary vigil at 7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.
A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Nixon, with the Rev. Kuriakose Ouseph to officiate.
Interment will follow in the Nixon Latin American Cemetery in Nixon.
