Ismael Juarez Salinas

Ismael Juarez Salinas of Elmendorf, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 29, 2022, at the age of 81. Ismael passed away in San Antonio after several months of declining health. Ismael was born Aug. 2, 1940, in Saspamco to Miguel and Refugia Juarez Salinas.

He met his match, fell in love, and married Olga Trinidad on Dec. 21, 1957, in Floresville. Together they raised three lovely children, Ismael Jr., Irma, and Jesse.

Ismael was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army. Through the years Ismael remained a strong and hardworking husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. Ismael lived a beautiful, dignified life. A discerning gentleman of exquisite taste, he provided comfort and solace while asking little in return. Anyone who knew Ismael was touched by his kindness, humor, and mild temperament. He offered a level of optimism that was honest, heartfelt, and spilled over into all that he did. He saw the world as it was despite the challenges and obstacles that existed.

Ismael was a practical joker with a generous heart of gold, never hesitating to help out those he loved. He enjoyed music, family gatherings, vacationing, and the occasional gambling trip. Ismael was an avid lover of all things sports. He loved his beloved San Antonio Spurs, Houston Astros, and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Ismael’s passing comes with immeasurable grief and sorrow. He was a great fire who burned bright. While his flame lives on in all who knew him, the days and years ahead will not be the same — but they will be good days, filled with life and love, because of the example he lived for us, said his family. He will be desperately missed by those he left behind. He was one-of-a-kind and to be loved by him was to be truly blessed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Miguel Salinas and mother Refugia Salinas; and daughter-in-law Bertha Salinas.

Ismael is survived by his wife, Olga Trinidad Salinas; children Ismael Salinas Jr., Irma (Jorge) Tello, and Jesse (Irma) Salinas; grandchildren Emily Salinas, Miguel Salinas, Gabriela Salinas, Lisa T. Smith, Eric Tello, Jenae Tello, Jesse T. Salinas, Desiree Salinas, Isaac Ledesma, and Eric Ledesma; and great-grandchildren Leah Salinas, Aiden Salinas, Maddie Verastigui, Liam Aguilera, Aiden Jonathon Aguilera, Camila Aguilera, Eyan Tello, John Smith, Starr Smith, and Melody Smith.
