Joe D. Leal Sr.

On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, Joe D. Leal Sr., loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 78. Joe was born Nov. 9, 1944, in Floresville, Texas, to Trinidad and Anita Leal.

From 1965 to 1971, Joe served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 1st Support Brigade, 7th Army Support Command in Europe as chief of the Adjutant General’s Distribution Center. In November of 1974 he married Olivia Flores and together they had two children, Joe Jr. and Melinda. Joe enjoyed 40 years working for Hoelscher’s Furniture store in Pleasanton as well as reading books on Texas history and life in the old west. His greatest love was making memories with his six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Richard, Adolfo, and Reynaldo Leal; sister-in-law Adela Leal; brothers-in-law Henry Montoya and Fred Hernandez; and father- and mother-in-law Rudolpho and Virginia Flores.

Joe is survived by his wife, Olivia; son Joe Jr. and partner Rubi Munoz; daughter Melinda Thomas and husband Daryl; grandchildren Chase Leal, Trent Leal, Gage Leal, John Munoz III, Gabriel Thomas, and Paisley Munoz; siblings Ester Montoya, Dora Leal, Mary Alice Hernandez, Abelardo Leal and wife Dora, Trinidad Leal, Robert Leal and wife Debbie, Edward Leal, and Alfonso Leal and wife Alicia; sister-in-law Eva Leal; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be recited on Thursday, May 11, at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the church.

Entombment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Leal, Chase Leal, Trent Leal, Gage Leal, John Munoz III, Gabriel Thomas, and Joseph Salazar.

The Leal family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
