David Greenwood, charged with the murder of his half-brother in May 2017, was convicted of the crime July 29 by a Wilson County jury.

The same jury also sentenced Greenwood to 20 years in prison.

Greenwood and his half-brother, Alexander Clay Byrom, reportedly got into an argument outside their home on C.R. 356 in Adkins before Greenwood shot him to death.

According to 81st District Attorney Audrey Louis, Byrom had a violent criminal history that included assaulting Greenwood.

During the trial, Greenwood testified that he shot Byrom in self-defense. However, Byrom was unarmed at the time.

“The jury has sent a clear message that in Wilson County everyone is entitled to equal protection under the law,” Louis said. “Shooting an unarmed man will not be accepted or tolerated.”
