The game between the La Vernia Lady Bears and the Lady Gobblers from Cuero started out on a high note April 11. The Lady Bears got on the board first. They were able to hang on to the one-run lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Lady Bears scored another lone run. That one run gave them a bit more breathing room, but not much.

The Lady Gobblers scored during their at bat in the top of the sixth inning, but the Lady Bears came right back and scored 2 runs of their own.

When the seventh inning started, the scoreboard had Cuero with 1 run and 4 runs for La Vernia.

The Lady Gobblers had two runners on base when their heavy hitter came to bat; and she did what she was good at, hit a home run! Three runs scored, and the game was tied. The inning came to a close with the Lady Bears needing just one run to undo the tie and win the game.

La Vernia managed to get a runner on board and eventually got her over to third base; however, with one out already, and a pop-up to the pitcher and a pop-up to the first baseman, the inning ended.

During the top of the eighth inning, the visitors loaded the bases and hit another home run, giving them 4 more runs. They later added an extra run for insurance, giving them 9 runs total.

The Lady Bears weren’t going to roll over and quit. The local fans were in a frenzy and the girls in the dugout had their rally hats on. It was crunch time. With one runner on base, Victoria Garcia gave it her best shot and hit one over the fence. Three outs were recorded before they could add any more runs.

The final score was Cuero Lady Gobblers 9, La Vernia Lady Bears 6.

La Vernia took on Navarro April 14. The Lady Bears scored 7 runs while holding the Panthers to 5.

The Lady Bears hosted Gonzales April 19 and will travel to Cuero Friday, April 22.
