The La Vernia High School Lady Bears softball team took their game against the Kennedy Rockets in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off double by sophomore Sarah Bradley that scored 2 in the bottom of the eighth inning March 28 in Bear Stadium.
Sophomore pitcher Hailey Lively started the game for the Lady Bears, going 4 innings. Junior Mattie Armstrong pitched the Lady Bears to victory. The righthander surrendered three runs on five hits over two innings, striking out two and walking one. Senior Mikalah Campbell threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Freshman Kayla Soriano had a dinger in the sixth inning.
The Lady Bears totaled 17 hits in the game. Aubrey Martin, Kayla Soriano, Victoria Garcia, Emma Herzog, Sarah Bradley, and Kenzie Soriano all managed multiple hits for La Vernia. Martin went 5-for-5 at the plate to lead the Lady Bears in hits.
La Vernia’s hard work paid off, with an 11-10 win over the Rockets.
The Lady Bears traveled to take on San Antonio Memorial April 3 and clinched the lead in the fourth inning to defeat the Minutemen, 14-3.

With one out in the top of the fourth Campbell singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.
The Lady Bears were boosted by senior Victoria Garcia who went 4-for-4 at the plate, including a solo home run in the second.
La Vernia pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning.
The Lady Bears had a big sixth inning driven by singles by Kayla Soriano, Kenzie Soriano, and Garcia, triples by Zoe Carlisle and Campbell, and an in-the-park home run by Avery Cleveland!
Campbell pitched La Vernia to victory. The lefty surrendered one run on two hits over two innings, striking out three and walking zero.
Continuing their schedule, La Vernia traveled to take on Gonzales April 10 and hosted Cuero April 11. Catch up with the Lady Bears Friday, April 14 at 7 p.m. at John F. Kennedy in San Antonio.
