On Friday April 29, the Poth Pirates defeated the Natalia Mustangs, 11-6 at “The Field of Dreams” in Poth. It was the power of the Pirate bats that won the day. It was also the final regular season game, parent’s night, and the last time this year’s seniors played at the old ball field in Pirate uniforms — an annual occurrence, but still a milestone in the lives of these young men.
With Colin Ramzinski on the bump for Poth, it was three up and three down for the Mustangs in the top half of the first inning. The Pirates pushed across 2 runs in the bottom half to lead 2-0 after one.
Ramzinski ran into trouble in the top half of the second inning allowing 1 run and loading the bases, he was relieved by Parker Stevens. Natalia scored 4 runs in the top of the second and blanked the Pirates in the bottom half to take the lead 4-2.
Poth held the Mustangs in the top of the third and scored 4 runs in the bottom half to retake the lead 6-4. The Pirates again held the Mustangs scoreless in the top of the fourth then loaded the bases and scored 3 runs in the bottom half to increase their lead to 9-4.
Neither team was able to score in the fifth inning. Natalia scored 1 run in the top of the sixth while the Pirates added 2 runs in the bottom half, including 1 run driven in the Pirate catcher, Zach Moore who pounded a three-bagger to right center, making the score Poth 11, Natalia 5.
The Mustangs scored another run in the top of the seventh bringing the final score to Poth 11, Natalia 6.
