NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE

Most of South Central Texas along and west of a Fredericksburg to San Marcos to Floresville line is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. tonight. This includes the San Antonio and Del Rio Metro areas.

The most likely threats Thursday evening are large hail up to 2 inches in diameter, wind gusts in excess of 70 mph, and an isolated tornado. Storms are ongoing across Edwards, Kerr, and Gillespie counties and will move south and east through the evening hours; this will impact parts of the Edwards Plateau, San Antonio Metro, and Rio Grande Plains.

Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible late this afternoon through late this evening.

Isolated locations could receive a quick 1 to 3 inches of rain, leading to flash flooding. Quick ponding may occur at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage areas. A few low-water crossings may flood prompt brief road closures.

Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes are possible.
