“We couldn’t get into the school because both ends of the road were closed by high water. We were trapped out — we think the suspect might have been local.”

Patti Werley, the founder and principal of Union Valley Christian Academy — located at 8221 F.M. 1681, in far southeastern Wilson County — was shocked to find the academy and church robbed Oct. 14, after heavy rains caused flooding in area communities.

After the floodwaters subsided and Werley was able to access the school and church, she found at least $2,600 worth of items stolen between both properties.

Stolen items included four computers, a television, multiple vacuum cleaners, Amazon Alexa devices, batteries, a sound bar, commercial power strips, two stereo systems, a Cricut machine, turkey oven, a dolly, trash cans, children’s personal belongings — even the Capri Sun juices for students’ snack time.

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case, advised Chief Deputy Clint Garza. Anyone with information related to this case should call the sheriff’s office at 830-393-2535.

Werley’s daughter, Lauren Lankford, has set up a GoFundMe page to help the academy return to normal as quickly as possible. Donations can be made at gofund.me/85d85edd.
