Tommie S. Vestal Sr.





1917-2002
On Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, Tommie Seale Vestal Sr. entered into rest at the Brooke Army Medical Center.

Tommie was born on Nov. 7, 1917, in Coolidge. At 21 years of age, he left home and joined the military.

In 1942, he married Bernice Friesenhahn.

Tommie retired from the U.S. Air Force as a chief warrant officer. He served during World War II, where he worked on the production and maintenance of the C141 and C5A transport aircraft.

After his active duty career of 21 years, he continued his career in the civil service for another 20 years.

Tommie enjoyed the rest of his life as a farmer and a rancher.

He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion Post No. 0539.

He and his wife, Bernice, would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 5.
His favorite saying was, “I’ve never had it so good.”

Tommie is survived by his wife, Bernice Louise Vestal; seven children and their spouses: Mary Ann Ferguson and husband Stanley, Tommie Vestal Jr. and wife Eleanor, Janie Hurt and husband Ty, Donald Vestal and wife Elizabeth, Walter Vestal, Gary Vestal and wife Lisa, and Terry Vestal; 19 grandchildren: Bret and Lea Ferguson, Jason Ferguson, Eric Vestal, Kevin Vestal, Heather Vestal, Tana Hurt, Ty II and Robin Hurt, Tiffany and Tommy Olson, Torry Hurt, Tristin Hurt, Sarah Vestal, Joshua Vestal, Michael Vestal, Craig Vestal, Melischa Vestal, Rebecca Deaton, Jayme Vestal, John Jaeckle, and Jenny Jaeckle; and 10 great-grandchildren: Bree’n, Trace, Brent, Dalton, Kendall, Ty III, Logan, Bailie, Preslie, and Skyler.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Aug. 25, in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 9 a.m. on Monday, in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.

Interment followed in the St. Hedwig Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, P.O. Box 100, St. Hedwig, TX 78152, in memory of Tommie S. Vestal Sr.
