A man wanted by the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office for burglary of vehicles and vehicle theft was still on the run as of press time Sept. 18.
Wilson County Sheriff’s Office deputies received information that Robert Atkins, 33, was at a residence on Blackjack Road, a couple of miles south of La Vernia off U.S. 87. The suspect has warrants out of Wilson County for burglary of a vehicle and felony theft of property and also is a suspect in recent multiple vehicle thefts and burglaries; he’s also a person of interest in the theft Sept. 7 and subsequent wrecking Sept. 10 of a pickup truck in the La Vernia area.
Officers went to the Blackjack Road address Sunday, Sept. 17, just after 1 p.m. to serve the warrants and arrest Atkins.
However, Atkins fled the address on foot, according to Chief Deputy Clint Garza. After a lengthy foot pursuit into a heavily wooded area, deputies lost sight of the suspect. They enlisted help from a DPS aircraft and La Vernia Police Department, but were unable to locate Atkins.
Extra patrols were set Sunday evening in the area of Blackjack, Oak Hill, and Post Oak roads. Residents of the area have been advised to ensure their vehicles and properties are secured, and to be watchful for Atkins, who has known associates in the area.
Atkins has a slender build and was last seen wearing a black shirt and black shorts with bright tennis shoes. He has a beard/goatee and has multiple tattoos.
He is well known to law enforcement. Anyone found to be assisting or aiding him will be charged accordingly, Garza said.
If you see anything suspicious or anyone matching Atkins’ description, call 911. Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call 830-393-2535 to speak to a supervisor or investigator.
The suspect’s girlfriend, Jazzmine Hart, 30, located by deputies at the residence on Blackjack Road on Sunday, was arrested for felony hindering apprehension and transported to the Wilson County Jail.
