Holiday Extravaganza: Will 4A corporation take it over?

“They want me to come back with a proposal,” Floresville Facilities and Events Manager Chezare Perez said after a special Sept. 7 meeting of corporation members.

He had gone before the members with a request from the city for the corporation to run the musical event this year.

The event, which has featured regional Tejano artists, debuted in December 2011. Although the 4A corporation oversees the Lauro G. De Leon III Floresville Event Center, where the event has taken place, the city was responsible for it in past years.

Corporation members haven’t decided if they want to take it on.

“They want me to give them some numbers at their next meeting [to determine] whether the event can make money or break even —whether we can have a successful event,” Perez said.

He said he expects corporation members to make a decision Sept. 21, the date of their next regular meeting.

Corporation members did decide on another event — the Floresville Family, Fun & Freedom Fest, which they set for July 4, 2018, a Wednesday, instead of on the prior weekend.

They also discussed utilizing partitions in the event center’s banquet hall. This would allow groups that require less space to use the banquet hall without having to rent the entire room.

Because of noise considerations, only one group could use part of the room at the same time, Perez said, but board member John Lackness promised to investigate sound-proof partitions that can extend to the ceiling of the banquet hall.
