NANNETTE KILBEY-SMITH/Reprints at bit.ly/wcnphotos A new traffic light on S.H. 97 east of Floresville is ready. All it needs now is electricity.

An anticipated increase in cross traffic was behind the decision to place lights at the highway’s junction with F.M. 539, according to Josh Donat of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

“We do expect the intersection safety to improve,” he said.

TxDOT has contracted with Hunter Industries LTD for the project, and the company has already reached out to the city of Floresville to have the power connected to the beacons, according to Donat.

“We do not have a timeline for that right now,” he said.

As soon as the power is connected, the signal will be activated. Traffic operations at the location will not change. Blinking yellow lights will greet traffic on S.H. 97, and blinking red lights on F.M. 539.
