By WCN Staff

Do you know how much to budget for your city, county, or school district taxes? Do you know what your city council or school district plans to spend in the coming year, and what they’ll spend it on? By law, they must hold public hearings on budgets and tax rates for taxpayers to have their say.

Here’s who, what, when, and where the public hearings and meetings will take place (all tax rates are per $100 of taxable value, unless specified otherwise):

•Wednesday, Sept. 13 and Monday, Sept. 18, both at 6 p.m., Connally Memorial Medical Center conference room, the Wilson County Memorial Hospital District hearings on a proposed tax rate of 11.97 cents, up from the current rate of 11.29 cents.

•Thursday, Sept. 14, 6:30 p.m., La Vernia City Hall, city of La Vernia will vote on its proposed tax rate of 19.99 cents, same as the current rate. The city also will vote on its proposed budget at this meeting.

•Monday, Sept. 25, 6:30 p.m., China Grove City Hall, the city of China Grove will hold a public hearing on its proposed budget, followed at 7 p.m. by a meeting to adopt the budget and consider a tax rate of 8.3 cents.

•Monday, Sept. 25, 9 a.m., Wilson County Courthouse, Wood Valley Acres Road District tax rate hearing; the proposed rate is 13.03 cents.
