A man who said he didn’t want his family to see him arrested for a traffic violation ended up being arrested for evading police Monday afternoon in Floresville.

Floresville Police Officer Daniel Small Jr. said he noticed expired registration tags on a black Mitsubishi Montero Sport vehicle and initiated a traffic stop Oct. 9 on Hospital Boulevard.

The driver pulled into the parking area of Pecan Park, “bailed out, and started running,” according to Small. Floresville Officer Billy Mitchell chased the driver on foot and apprehended him behind the former hospital near the park.

Police identified the driver as Christopher Navarro, 24, of Floresville. They found no outstanding warrants on Navarro, but impounded his vehicle for further investigation.

Mitchell said Navarro told him that he didn’t want his wife and three children, who were in his vehicle, to see him arrested, but now he faces charges of evasion of a law enforcement officer, in addition to a citation for a traffic violation.
