Wrong-way driver hits vehicle

By WCN Staff

An alleged wrong-way driver put himself and another driver in the hospital Oct. 5 after his vehicle hit an oncoming vehicle on U.S. 181 north of Floresville.

An eyewitness informed the Wilson County News that he called 911 and reported seeing a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lane on U.S. 181 just before 1 a.m.

Not long after that, Wilson County sheriff’s dispatch received a call reporting a head-on collision north of F.M. 775.

The wrong-way vehicle was described as a maroon Chevrolet Silverado pickup, according to the dispatcher’s log.

A deputy also advised the dispatcher that one of the drivers was trapped behind his steering wheel. The driver was safely extricated by first responders, and both drivers were transported to San Antonio hospitals by AirLife helicopters.

There was no report of other occupants in the vehicles.

Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol took charge of the scene. As of press time, DPS had not confirmed whether any charges were filed.
