Sheriff Joe Tackitt issues warning about donating

(Posted 11/10/17) This information is taken directly from the Wilson County Sheriff's Office Facebook Page: Wilson County Sheriff's Office

We understand that during a tragic event people want to reach out and help the victims and their families. While any and all help is appreciated please keep a close watch at who and what you donate to. As much as we like to believe that every Go Fund Me account or website is collecting money for the families, the reality is they are not.

It was brought to the Sheriff's Office attention yesterday about a a website that was set up using the First Baptist Church's logo and information but it was not the website set up by the church itself.

This information was given to the FBI and they are working on finding the original person responsible. We are working with the DA's Office and the FBI/Texas Ranger Task Force to make sure that these accounts are shut down. If you come across a donation account for these victims that you believe may be a scam please let us know and we will look into it. DO NOT donate to any site or account that you feel is not legit.

Please know that we can't verify all accounts so please do not call us and ask us if an account is a scam or not before donating. Any information regarding possible scam donation websites or Go Fund Me pages and be sent via message to this Facebook page or by contacting the Wilson County Sheriff's Office at 830-393-2535.
