Floresville will soon find former city Councilman Juan Ortiz back on the city’s governing body.

Ortiz defeated Councilman Jacob Silva in the contest for Place 3 on the city council in the Nov. 7 election, by a vote of 566 to 376 in complete, but unofficial returns.

Silva was elected last January in a runoff to succeed Councilman Johnny Ray Nieto, who resigned.

Ortiz previously served on the council from 2014-16 in Place 2, currently held by Councilman Nick Nissen.

Councilman Gerard Jimenez turned away a challenge from Frank S Ramirez, and Councilman Gloria Cantu ran unopposed.

Ortiz will rejoin the council after the vote is certified, either at the next scheduled council meeting Dec. 14 or at a special meeting, if one is called.

In the only contest for the Floresville Independent School District board of trustees, Jason Svoboda edged out incumbent Nancy Jurgajtis by six votes in complete, but unofficial returns.

In a race in which only 110 people ultimately voted, Jurgajtis led in early voting, but lost on Election Day.
