Young Ryland Ward has been released today from University Hospital in San Antonio, two months after being shot multiple times Nov. 5, 2017, in the Sutherland Springs First Baptist Church.

The Floresville South Elementary School kindergartner was transported home like a hero, with a motorcade of firetrucks, law-enforcement escorts, and more.

He was among more than 20 injured by a gunman, who also killed 26 others last November, in the deadliest mass shooting in Texas in modern times.

Stockdale first responder Rusty Duncan had promised Ryland a ride in a firetruck as soon as doctors said the little boy was well enough to do so.

    And today was that day!

Look for more on this in the Jan. 17 Wilson County News.
