Poth ISD election draws 10 candidates for May 5

Ballots fill for city councils, school boards

It looks like the race is on for a number of public offices across the Wilson County News readership area.

May ballots will include, for voters in eastern Wilson County, potential annexation of the former La Vernia EMS coverage area by Wilson County Emergency Services District 3 (District 3 EMS).

Election Day is Saturday, May 5.

Elections are likely to be canceled for these entities, due to unopposed candidates for the offices up for election:

•China Grove City Council

•La Vernia City Council

•Stockdale City Council

•Falls City Independent School District (ISD).

Stockdale ISD also is looking to cancel its May election, after only Brian Stahl and incumbent Tanner Voelkel filed to fill the two available openings.

Elections will take place for the following entities:

City Councils

Elmendorf City Council

Place 3: Saul Santos and incumbent Polo Maldonado

Place 5: Linda Peña Ortiz, incumbent

Mayor: Michael Gonzales, incumbent

Nixon City Council

Two at-large seats: incumbent Doug Koenig, along with Mark Soto, Jessica Garcia, Maggie Gaytan, and George Pena

Mayor: Dorothy Riojas is unopposed to replace Mayor Gladyne Finch.

Poth City Council

Mayor: Chrystal Eckel (incumbent) and Johnny Garza De La Zerda

Regular election for two council places: Stephen Wiatrek and Anabel Ramon

Special election for two vacant seats: John Olenick and Chuck Morris.

St. Hedwig City Council

Place 2: Incumbent Susann Baker is unopposed

Place 4: Incumbent Deborah McInerney, unopposed

Mayor: incumbent Dee Grimm and former Councilman Walter Wyrwich The city also will hold a sales-tax election.

school boards

Nixon-Smiley Consolidated ISD

Place 2: Frank “Bud” Box

Place 3: Richard Lott, incumbent

Place 6: Clay Allen and Aly Tschoepe

Poth ISD

Four at-large seats: incumbents Rogelio “Roy” Cruz, Dawn Kerby, and Lance Malcher, as well as Heidi Noll, Daniel Castillo, Erica Urbanczyk, Jon Sunday, Kim Beasley, Ann Conn, and Jeff Pollok
