Register to vote for May 5 election

The May 5 general election is only a month away!

Get ready to vote in city council and school board elections across the Wilson County News coverage area. The last day to register to vote is this Thursday, April 5.

Also on the May ballots for voters in eastern Wilson County is the potential annexation of the former La Vernia EMS coverage area by Wilson County Emergency Services District 3 (District 3 EMS). Watch for more information on this in coming issues.

Early voting takes place Monday, April 23, through Tuesday, May 1. Ballots by mail may be requested until Tuesday, April 24.

Elmendorf City Council

Place 3: Saul Santos and incumbent Polo Maldonado Place 5: Linda Peña Ortiz, incumbent Mayor: Michael Gonzales, incumbent.

Nixon City Council

Two at-large seats: incumbent Doug Koenig, along with Mark Soto, Jessica Garcia, Maggie Gaytan, and George Pena

Mayor: Dorothy Riojas is unopposed.

Poth City Council

Mayor: Chrystal Eckel, incumbent, and Johnny Garza De La Zerda

Regular election for two council places: Stephen Wiatrek and Anabel Ramon

Special election for two vacancies: John Olenick and Chuck Morris.

St. Hedwig City Council

Place 2: Incumbent Susann Baker, unopposed

Place 4: Incumbent Deborah McInerney, unopposed

Mayor: incumbent Dee Grimm and former Councilman Walter Wyrwich

The city also will hold a sales-tax election.

Nixon-Smiley Consolidated ISD

Place 2: Frank “Bud” Box

Place 3: Richard Lott, incumbent

Place 6: Clay Allen and Aly Tschoepe.

Poth ISD

Four at-large seats: incumbents Rogelio “Roy” Cruz, Dawn Kerby, and Lance Malcher, as well as Heidi Noll, Daniel Castillo, Erica Urbanczyk, Jon Sunday, Kim Beasley, Ann Conn, and Jeff Pollok.
