By WCN Staff

FLORESVILLE — A jury at the Wilson County District Court Justice Center sentenced former San Antonio attorney Mark Benavides to 80 years in prison April 6, after finding him guilty three days earlier of providing legal services to clients in exchange for sex.

The trial, which began March 26, was held in Floresville, after his attorney obtained a change of venue.

Benavides was charged with six counts of continuous trafficking of persons, which is a first-degree felony punishable by 25 to 99 years or life in prison.

Although Benavides was sentenced to 80 years in prison for each count, the sentences are to be served concurrently. He will be eligible for parole in 30 years.

Evidence against Benavides included testimony by six women and tapes Benavides had made of himself having sex with his clients, according to multiple news sources.

Benavides also faces four other charges.
