La Vernia students vape on bus trip to football game, face disciplinary action

By WCN Staff

Five La Vernia High School football players, along with 10 other students — confirmed to be members of the cheerleading squad, band, and flag running team — face disciplinary action after admitting to vaping on a school bus trip Sept. 28 to Rockport-Fulton.

Administrators confirmed their findings Oct. 10, after receiving an anonymous phone call alleging that football players were vaping on the school trip, according to a statement released by the La Vernia Independent School District. Another call to a San Antonio TV station alleged “hundreds” of students engaged in vaping on the trip to a football game; this proved unfounded, the district said.

Vaping and “juuling” by students on school grounds and at school-sponsored functions are forbidden by the Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct.

“These students have already received appropriate consequences in accordance with our Student Code of Conduct and standards of behavior for their organization,” said Dr. Trent Lovette, La Vernia ISD superintendent.
