Begin your celebrations with HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA

“The Hometown Boys” will headline the Holiday Extravaganza Dec. 15. “The Hometown Boys” will headline the Holiday Extravaganza Dec. 15. For many across South Central Texas, the festive season gets going with Floresville’s Holiday Extravanga — a night of music, dancing, and fun in the Lauro G. De Leon III Floresville Event Center.

This year’s event, set for Saturday, Dec. 15, from 6 p.m. to midnight, promises to be better than ever.

Las Fenix”

Making a Floresville debut is “Las Fenix,” five sisters who began their act by surprising their dad in 1999 by singing a couple of songs.

The Rodriguez sisters — Berna, Adela, Lesli, Nadia, and Anahi — consider themselves blessed by God to share their musical talents.

“The most wonderful thing is being on stage and entertaining the public and hearing their applause and kind words, which we thank God for,” they said.

They’re thankful to share their two cultures, and encourage young people to “… fall in love with a sport or music or art, as a way to get away from the negative things and people.”

The Hometown Boys”

Seeing out the evening will be popular Tejano/conjunto band, “The Hometown Boys.” With roots all the way back to the 1950s, when Roman Martinez Sr. and his wife, Maria Dolores, formed a band with their six children. Originally “el Grupo Internacional de Ricky y Joe Martinez,” the members became “The Hometown Boys” in 1990.

The band cut its first album, “El Poder de una Mujer,” in 1991, and rapidly became one of conjunto’s most popular bands. They were inducted in 1996 as the first Hispanic band in the Lubbock Music Walk of Fame.

Roman Sr. kept the band together, despite the deaths of several members, including Roman Jr.

Nicknamed “The Homies,” the band remains popular with fans, recently playing a date at San Antonio’s Midnight Rodeo. Learn more about them on their Facebook page.

Blue Santa

The event also will feature a toy drive, to aid the Floresville Police Department’s Blue Santa project to help children in need this Christmas. Take a toy, minimum value $5, and get two free beverage coupons.
